Weekend Plans in Korean: Invite, Confirm and Decline

Knowing how to say “Let’s meet” is only half the job. You also need to check whether someone is free, agree on details and sometimes say no. This guide follows one invitation from the first message to a clear plan, with room for an honest decline.

Short answer

To make weekend plans in Korean, first ask about availability, then suggest an activity and confirm a time and place. Keep polite speech for a new acquaintance. If you cannot go, decline clearly and kindly; offer another day only when you want to. A vague “sometime” is not a confirmed plan.

How do I ask whether someone is free?

이번 주말에 시간 있어요? means “Do you have time this weekend?” It checks availability without deciding the activity for them. 토요일 오후에 시간 괜찮아요? narrows the question to Saturday afternoon. If someone is busy, you can leave it there instead of asking them to explain why.

How do I suggest something to do?

Do you have time this weekend?
Would you like to have coffee together? Friendly polite speech.
How about Saturday afternoon?
Where shall we meet?
Then let’s meet at two on Saturday.

-ㄹ래요/-을래요 is a friendly way to ask about someone’s preference. It does not fit every formal setting. For a colleague you barely know, (“If it works for you, shall we have coffee?”) leaves a little more space. Tone and relationship matter as much as the ending.

What needs to be confirmed?

Agree on the day, time and place. 언제 한번 봐요. means something like “Let’s see each other sometime”; it does not establish an appointment. A short confirmation avoids guessing. If you are making a real plan with another person, check their actual reply rather than treating an AI practice exchange as a reservation.

Sounds good. How about two?

How do I decline without sounding cold?

Thank them or acknowledge the invitation, then state that you cannot make it. You do not owe a detailed personal explanation. 이번 주말은 어려울 것 같아요. means “I don’t think this weekend will work.” It can be polite without promising a future meeting.

How can I practice before sending a real invitation?

Try three versions: accept, decline and suggest another day. Change one detail each time instead of memorizing a long dialogue. You can use Hi Jisoo’s fictional AI friends to practice Korean text exchanges; they cannot meet you, book a table or confirm another person’s schedule. AI wording may also be mistaken.

For a lighter opening before the invitation, use our first-message examples. If the conversation is already casual, our speech-level guide can help you understand how the endings change.

Frequently asked questions

Does “언제 한번 봐요” confirm a meeting?

No. It expresses the idea of meeting sometime. Agree on a day, time and place before treating it as an appointment.

Do I have to suggest another day when declining?

No. Suggest an alternative if you want to reschedule. A polite and clear decline is enough when you do not.

Can Hi Jisoo arrange a real meeting?

No. The friends are fictional AI characters. Use these exchanges for language practice, and confirm real plans directly with the person involved.
